Tapcon is a brand of self-tapping concrete screw that threads directly into a pre-drilled carbide bit hole. They are ideal for light to medium loads, removable installations, and attaching wood, metal, or electrical components to concrete, brick, or block. 3/16 inch Tapcons hold 100-200 lbs shear; 1/4 inch hold 200-400 lbs. Always use the specified carbide bit size.

Drill bit size must match the anchor exactly. Tapcon 3/16 inch needs a 5/32 inch carbide bit. Tapcon 1/4 inch needs 3/16 inch. Wedge and sleeve anchors use the same diameter bit as the anchor body (3/8 inch anchor = 3/8 inch bit). Always use hammer mode and a carbide-tipped masonry bit for concrete.
